Amalfi Coast One Day Itinerary

Amalfi  Coast  One  Day  Itinerary

One day really isn't enough for a comprehensive tour of the Amalfi Coast but as this is the only time that many people have, let's look at how you can make the most of that time.

Ideally you'll have rented a car which means no waiting around for buses and will allow you to see much, if not quite everything.

As many of you will be staying in Sorrento, we've chosen that as the location to start the itinerary and the first part of the journey will be the 45 minute drive to Positano which is the first major location on the Amalfi Coast that you'll reach.
We suggest parking your car at the top of the town and then either walking down (around 25 minutes depending on where you've parked) or waiting for a bus. Once you're down at the beach area you can explore the small town centre with its shops and cafès before heading back up to the car park an hour or so later.

Assuming you left Sorrento around 9am you'll be back in your car around 11:30 and ready for the next leg of the journey. You're now about to drive through the most beautiful section of the Amalfi Coast road, heading east, passing through Praiano and Furore before reaching Conca dei Marini. Find a place to park on the main road and take a walk down to the beach, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. By the time you get down to the beach you'll be feeling a bit peckish and this is a great place to stop for lunch.

Ok so after lunch, back up the steps and into the car for the short drive to Amalfi (around 15 minutes). There's a large car park on Amalfi's sea-front so take advantage of that and you'll be able to spend a couple of hours looking around the town. Essential sights in Amalfi include the beautiful cathedral and the main thoroughfare. If you're feeling adventurous you can walk through the tunnel to visit the neighbouring town of Atrani. It takes around 15-20 minutes to get to Atrani so you could go there and back, enjoy a very quick visit of the town centre there and still have just under an hour in Amalfi itself.

By my calculations it'll be around 4pm by the time you get in the car again, usually the hottest part of the day but don't worry as now you're going somewhere cool (in both senses of the word!). For any itinerary of the Amalfi Coast, Ravello is an absolute must and you've got just about enough time to drive up there, (around 20 minutes) and enjoy the main sights of the town.  You'll probably need to put 3 hours on the car park when you arrive in Ravello as there's a lot to see. The first place you'll see is the main square "Piazza Duomo" with its church sitting proudly at one end while to the right of the church is Villa Rufolo, again a must where you can spend another happy hour. That leaves just about enough time to visit the remarkable Villa Cimbrone before grabbing an Espresso and leaving.

With this itinerary you'd leave Ravello around 7:30pm. From there back to Sorrento takes around an hour and 45 minutes so you could either have an early dinner in Ravello or perhaps more wisely, get the drive down the mountain out of the way while it's still light and have dinner somewhere along the Amalfi Coast Road or wait until you get back to Sorrento, dump the car and reward yourselves with a well-earned drink!
