With the summer season drawing to a close it's high time I shared my thoughts with another Amalfi Coast Photo Blog. For today's blog I've decided to talk about one of my favourite towns along the eastern section of the Costiera. For whatever reason, this half of the coast is much quieter than the other side which can boast Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, but little towns like Erchie are well worth the extra bit of effort and distance.

Nestled next to the town of
Cetara, Erchie is a very Italian beach resort, a beautiful cove whose bright blue water dazzles and entices you from the main road above. The small town is characterised by its watchtower called Torre La Cerniola. The original purpose of the tower was to protect against the marauding Saracen pirates that used to so trouble this region but you'll be pleased to know things are much less fraught these days! In fact the tower is now an elegant restaurant and wedding venue with a gorgeous beach on either side. Away from the tower you'll find a selection of other restaurants and shops as well as some interesting accommodation options. As mentioned above, Erchie has a very Italian feel to it which marks it out from some of the better-known towns along the coast. So if you're planning a trip here I'd certainly recommend considering Erchie for a stop or even as a base from which to explore the region. Hotels here are much cheaper than in Positano or Amalfi for example and you'll find a very unpretentious, laid-back and genuinely local atmosphere. I'll be back with another blog soon but please write to me if you'd like more information about visiting Erchie or anywhere else on the Amalfi Coast. Back soon. Ciao :-)
