One of the nicest surprises when driving along the Amalfi Coast Road is the little-known beach resort of Erchie with its laid back atmosphere and genuine Italian flavour.
Despite being one of the lesser know locations along the Amalfi Coast, Erchie provides a very pleasant surprise to those that see it for the first time.
Driving east from Maiori along the Amalfi Coast Road, Erchie first comes into view as a small glimmer as you look down in the distance to your right. In fact you can pull over and take photos from above where you get the full effect of the beautiful, clear azure water.
The town itself is very small, more of a village in fact but whereas the more famous locations along the Amalfi Coast will be heaving with visitors during the summer, Erchie remains relatively untouched and most of its visitors are locals or Italians, giving it a nice, authentic feel.
Its beach is the obvious attraction, a wide stretch of sand where you'll find a mixture of free sections as well as those where you can hire a sunbed and umbrella. You can also use a pathway on the right hand side of the beach to walk around the headland.
Behind the beach there's a small amount of bars, restaurants and gift shops, all with a very laid-back atmosphere and it's this atmosphere that really marks Erchie out as an unpretentious and still relatively untouched beach resort worth visiting. You can reach Erchie by bus with Vietri sul Mare around 35 minutes away.
