Scala is a sleepy town located in the hills of the Amalfi Coast's interior. It offers a medieval cathedral and a number of walking routes, ideal for hikers looking for lower temperatures.
The sleepy town of Scala offers a change in atmosphere from some of the more illustrious towns along the Amalfi Coast.
Scala is reached along a road that winds its way up from Amalfi, a drive of just under half an hour and located across the valley from Ravello.
From Scala's attractive main square you can see across to Ravello while the square itself has the medieval Duomo di San Lorenzo cathedral as its centrepiece.
With other Amalfi Coast locations providing beaches and craggy coves, Scala is more enjoyed by walkers who take advantage of its well-trodden hiking routes. This is helped by the lower temperatures that make the paths an appealing destination even during the hot summers.
